It is not only the consumption of specialty coffees that is increasing in Brazil. The quality is also skyrocketing. Lucca now has six microlots above 90 points, eight microlots above 88 points, and also a dozen coffees above 84 points.
In fact, two protocols for specialty coffee testing, both the SCA-Specialty Coffee Association and the COE-Cup of Excellence, point coffees from 0 to 100. If under 80, coffee is not considered specialty. From 84 point and above, it means that the coffee has well-defined and easily perceived flavor and aroma attributes. Above 88 points, the coffee is exceptional, and above 90 points, the coffee is extraordinary!
It is a system adopted by the technicians of the specialty coffee field, but also, much used by us with the final consumers. In addition to being simple and intuitive, it is almost identical to the scoring system used by the wine expert Robert Parker. It is so similar, that Robert Parker considers that wines below 80 points have apparent defects and are not advisable to the enthusiast's consumption.
In addition to the punctuation, other references are also adopted by consumers, such as region of origin, variety, processes and altitude.
